Entre los días 7 y 22 de julio se llevará a cabo un nuevo conteo Censo Neotropical de Aves Acuáticas. Esta actividad es organizada por Wetlands International y coordinado en nuestro país por Aves Argentinas desde el año 2010.
Como sucede en cada una de las ediciones, los censistas visitarán humedales localizados en diversos ambientes -desde Jujuy hasta Tierra del Fuego- para censar las aves acuáticas allí presentes.
Este monitoreo a largo plazo procura censar regularmente los sitios y tiene como objetivo identificar posibles cambios en la diversidad y número de individuos, algo de suma importancia para todas las especies, pero fundamental para las aves migratorias y para aquellas que presentan problemas de conservación. Paralelamente, la toma de datos ambientales permite realizar un seguimiento de cada sitio y detectar tempranamente alteraciones que pudieran ocurrir (ya sea por causas humanas o naturales). Estos censos se han vuelto fundamentales para comprender y monitorear el estatus de las aves acuáticas y los humedales.
THE FARO QUERANDI MUNICIPAL RESERVE PARTICIPATES IN THE NEOTROPICAL WATERBIRD CENSUS
A new Neotropical Waterbird Census will be carried out between July 7 and 22. This activity is organized by Wetlands International and coordinated in Argentina by Aves Argentinas [Argentine Birds] since 2010.
As it happens in each edition, the census officials will visit wetlands in different environments, from Jujuy to Tierra del Fuego, to register the waterbirds there.
This long-term monitoring seeks to regularly register the sites and aims to identify possible changes in the diversity and number of individuals, since it is of utmost importance for all species, but fundamentally for migratory birds and for those that have conservation problems. At the same time, the collection of environmental data allows monitoring of each site and early detection of alterations that may occur, whether by human or natural causes. These censuses have become essential to understand and monitor the status of waterbirds.
